Goals :
- To learn some verbs from first group (most of french verbs are from that group - you know one, you know all !).
- To use those verbs to describe basic actions at present time.
- To learn some basic vocabulary.
- To use (even imperfectly) that knowledge daily.
What are first group's verbs ?
All the verbs ending with "-er".
There are two other groups ("-re", "-ir").
In English, you make a difference between “I walk” and “I’m walking.”
In French, we use “I walk” (Je marche) more broadly. We don’t really have an equivalent for “I’m walking.”
To convey the same idea (“I’m walking”), we must say something like “Je suis en train de marcher.” (we'll see it later).
Engage in reading
Your goal is to practice and understand the following text.
Point 1 : You'll read many first group's verbs. They all are conjugated in present. Identify them!
Point 2 : If you don’t know how to distinguish between a noun, an adjective, an adverb,...
Don’t worry ! It’s not important. Those are technical terms. Children speak french before knowing what are nouns, adjectives, adverbs,...
Even adults don't know.
Point 3 : Let's focus on what is simplest. Your first goal is to be understood, not to speak perfect French. Don't stress! Don't run!

The French "on" is a very versatile pronoun that doesn’t have a direct equivalent in English. It is used in different ways depending on the context.
In spoken French, "on" is often used instead of "nous" (we). This is very common in everyday conversations.
Example : "On mange" = "nous mangeons".
Even though "on" is grammatically singular, it often refers to multiple people (like "we" or "people").
With "on", verbs are always conjugated in the third-person singular (il/elle form).
